really liked it

Not really one of my favorite Vorkosigan books. Not because it isn't well written (it is) or because characters are poorly handled (they aren't) but because Miles does something unforgivably stupid and ultimately self destructive and it hurts to see someone you like doing something like that. Fortunately for the reader, wallowing in maudlin self pity gets interrupted by a crisis inside Imperial Security. Problem is, Miles doesn't work there any more (I said it was unforgivably stupid). Miles' solution to that problem is pretty much typical Miles.
In between some nifty intrigue and detective work is some nice meditation on going on after you've really screwed up and what happens next. It might not be my favorite of the Vorkosigan books, but it's still pretty darn good and just might have some of the most important things to say.
