really liked it

Things do not happen in this tale as I imagined that they might have when i began this second book of the series. I enjoyed the writing, pace, and action of this story more than I did the first book (partially as there seemed to be less action and past to unfold, and partly because it seemed more stuff happened - or I simply resigned myself to the pace at which action flows in these books...idk). In any case, I like many of the twists and turns that have befallen the characters so far. This world seems to still be built on basic principals of good vs. evil, moral choice vs. immoral choice, and love of family vs. love of country/royal family backing, etc. but this book does a better job of showing a few more shades of gray that lie within those choices for many of the characters than the previous book did. There is am empathy that I gained for each side, a justification behind each choice made that seemed more poignant in this book that the first book of this series. I am excited to see what magic comes out of the forrest behind the wall in the coming books, and how some of the hinted at religious/philosophical ideologies play out in greater detail. A fun summer read, a good reminder of how good fantasy can be gripping escapism...
