Dr. Heather Manley does an amazing job of relaying very complicated human body functions and vocabulary in a way that is easy to understand in the book Battle With the Bugs. Battle With the Bugs follows Merrin and Pearl into their cousin, Max’s, nasal passage and ear as they discover how the body fights ear infections. The wording is easy for children to comprehend, even when the bigger scientific names are used. The addition of colorful pictures, descriptive wording, and a glossary allows for better understanding of the concepts presented of how the human body reacts during infections. There is also a short section on how to stay healthy and jokes relating to the topic. As a teacher, this would be a great teaching tool for elementary age students.

Isak’s review: (9 years old): Battle With Bugs is very easy to understand. I liked the information about the human body. This can teach kids how the human body can protect itself from dangers. I really liked the jokes at the end!
