Amanda Quick, aka Jayne Anne Krentz, phones it in.
Lonely lady rents cottage near supposedly abandoned estate near a psychical nexus. One night, someone tries to break into her home to kill her. She escapes to the estate's garden only to literally bump into the owner.
Something weird is going on with the garden, and with these two -- they're both psychic. He's falls instantly, and being a woman of a certain age in Victorian England, she is ready for affair.
There's more mayhem tied to the lady and the garden, and the affair gets trickier when the owner's relatives start moving in.
Lucas and Evangeline fell flat, not enough characterization, and though the plot was there, it didn't keep me on the edge of my seat.
And love didn't mellow Lucas, dark and brooding and quick to rage in the beginning, he's described the same way at the end. This doesn't seem to make for a promising relationship for Evangeline.
