I liked this book - I don't know if I would give it a second read but I certainly enjoyed the first. I worry that things were lost in translation because something kept me from being fully involved in likable characters but I had an overwhelming sense that some of the stories/characters could have been better flushed out. However, I enjoyed his style and loved reading about the culture he presents in Bavaria in the 1600s. The difference in the setting, from what I am used to, sucked me in. I loved that the hangman was the main character. The book was very interesting. If you see it on a shelf you should seriously consider picking it up.
