it was amazing

What an extraordinary treat, even though I was dismayed to see it was a series (I am getting very tired of series books). This is a society where everyone has magic, and on their twelfth birthday they find out what their level is -- except when they find out they do not have any. Abby is an ord, one without magic, and while her parents and siblings gather round with fierce love and support, she is shunned and ignored. There's a school for ords, though, supported by the King, and this volume follows Abby's first year there. Wonderful writing: funny, silly, and touching, and some pretty scary enemies. Despite how I feel about series books, I am looking forward to the next one.
