liked it

Very few American writers can turn a phrase like Richard Ford. And very few American writers can get at the heart of the human psyche in such an eloquent and real way. That being said, I wanted to like the book more, as I hadn't read any of his work since the '90s. His characterization of Dell was truly magnificent (as every character in the book was, really); but the story itself seemed to meander. Things happened around Dell, rather than to Dell, and I suppose that was the whole point.
