A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1)
Jul 01, 2012
I got somewhere between 100 and 200 pages in (I'm not even sure any more) and nothing much really seemed to happen. It just screamed to me from page 1 that the author was trying to make the new Lord Of The Rings, but failed miserably. I know it's hard to live up to such great standards, but this didn't even come close. The writing style seems pretty much the same, except George Martin just couldn't pull it off. I also didn't like the way women were talked about in this book, I mean I know in the older days we were supposed to be lesser creatures, made for nothing more than just pushing out kid after kid, but that doesn't excuse the way women were talked about here. I might try reading it again one day, but maybe not for a while.
