I was given this novel for free through Goodreads First Reads. I found Chef Samuelsson childhood and struggles throughout his life inspiring. Born in Ethiopia and adopted by a Swedish couple his life dream as a child was to become a soccer player. When that didn't work out he turned to his second love of food, and worked extremely hard to get to the top level by traveling the world and training with top chefs. To end up in NYC Harlem with his own restaurant is such a huge accomplishment. As someone who watches chefs shows on tv and by no means has an interest to be a professional chef it was interesting to learn about the different steps involved with a few aha moments as to why things are done a certain way such as "Yes Chef". Definately would recommend for anyone who has an interest in professional cooking or a curiosity on what the road to a professional chef may be like.
