We (our club) had just finished the Two Lives of Lydia Bird (BEST eeekk) so One by One was a good transition and a big hit for me! It wasn't fast paced, which I knew beforehand, so I made it my casual Saturday read and ended up feeling it was a solid 3.5 stars. I bumped it up to 4 because of the other women's reviews in the club.
I did notice it was hit or miss with this one for other book club review; seems it mattered what you read just before. If your last book was a great edge-of-your-seat- thriller/suspense, then it seemed this one fell a bit flat. However, if you came out of a romance or regency, it seemed this one was a hit.
So I suggest placing it between genres and slow your pace a bit.
