Tuesdays with Morrie, A dying man's live funeral.
This could only be the apt summary of the book.
The old man is very sweet and teaches us the value of empathy and humbleness in life. The author on the other end is one of many of us, working through life, trying to either make ends meet or trying to let life pass while engrossing in meaningless things and cribbing about it. Morrie comes in his life as a saviour for his soul and brings for us a treasure box of advices.
The book is set up very beautifully in parts in Mitch's college and in Morrie's bedroom where the classes take place. The dying man in his dying is trying to give to people as much as he can. This spirit comes from being surrounded with people who love and care for him. This has been the highlight for me. As much you love and give, you create a community of shared caring around you. The magic of such being is so strong that he made a tough skinned TV anchor cry. Someone who is more into show offs has turned into a genuine friend in first meeting with him. This is pure magic and only happens when you fill your self with love and only care to give.
As days goes by and I see Morrie closer to dying, I can feel him going and a sense of loss in myself. This, has been the impact of the old man's being and the way mitch has crafted it in his words. This little book inspires me to become humble, empathetic and giving to people. That's the kind of life I would want to lead.
