There are good writers and there are great writers, and Joshua Rex is a GREAT writer. I was truly surprised to see that this is his first solo book, after having short stories appear in a few anthologies.
.
The stories in this collection are full of beautiful prose and imagery contrasted with fear and terror. Several of the stories reminded me of the old Gothic tales from the Victorian masters of horror. And if you knew how much I love the old stories so you would know what a huge compliment that is from me. I can't even tell you which stories were my favorites because they were ALL so good.
.
You will find yourself drawn in to and lost in these stories. The author has a bit of that Stephen King magic to him - in that the pages fly by and the stories never feel bogged down. This was by far my favorite collection in all of Short Story September, and I encourage everyone to check out Joshua Rex and his work.
