really liked it
bookshelves: gay-male-romance, male-male

3 ½ stars. Enjoyable, above average gay male romance. Good relationship development.

Jared has a teaching certificate. He does not teach at the local high school because he fears some parents and students will not accept a gay teacher. Instead Jared works in a hardware/automotive supply store. Matt moves to town as a new hire in the police department. Matt dates women but he doesn’t enjoy them. He denies that he has occasionally been attracted to men.

This is the type of gay male romance that reminds me of regency romance. It is forbidden to be attracted to someone. In regency, a woman must not let herself act on her attraction because if she is seen kissing him she will be “ruined.” In this story Matt denies his attraction to Jared - the main conflict. There are other conflicts, prejudice against gay guys and a bad guy criminal element.

I enjoyed reading this. I loved Lizzie’s attitude and actions (Jared’s sister-in-law).

Narrative mode: first person Jared. Kindle count story length: 2936 (575 KB). Swearing language: strong, including religious swear words. Sexual language: moderate. Number of sex scenes: 9. Setting: current day Coda, Colorado. Copyright: 2010. Genre: gay male romance.
