it was amazing
bookshelves: fiction, reread, all-time-absolute-favorites
Read from January 01 to 06, 1990

I'll always remember the feeling that I had when I first read this book. I wanted to live like Penelope, the main character. I loved the extended family with all their accepted imperfections and the domestic descriptions by Rosamunde Pilcher. It's not great literature, and sometimes reads like a well-written romance (not my cup of tea), but it's just one great story and one of the few books that I've ever read and re-read.

Donna Oh Bonny, I too, loved Pilcher's SHELL SEEKERS! Read some others by her, too - SEPTEMBER, for one! I was told to grab THE WORLD OF ROSAMUNDE PILCHER (paperback) to garner some insight as to what inspires her tales! ;-)

True confessions time: I reread Sloane Wilson's A SUMMER PLACE every copy was my Aunt Bonnie's--a 1965 First Dell Printing paperback - $.75, tattered and torn! It was my first "trashy novel" , and it embraced me as a teen (it was actually written when I was a year old!)...Summer Romance ;-) That's the only book I truly reread...short of picking up a novel and saying, "Wait a minute...I read this already!" So many books--so little time! Hard to recall all the titles!
