I really enjoyed the writing style in this book. Willa Cather has an excellent ability to make you really see what she is writing about. One part nearly made me cry as she was describing wagon trails along the mountain tops; it was so rich and beautiful. The first one-third of this book was incredible, which gave me high hopes for the rest of the book, and although it ended happily and with the main characters at peace, I didn't enjoy as much the second third of the book, and the last third of the book didn't come near the beginning. I guess I wasn't completely satisfied with Thea's life choices, and I thought her life was not as full as it once had been. Something I have come to love about American Classics is the connection to the land that the most heroic characters have; it is truly inspiring.
