Laura Moriarty's latest book examines the effects a tragic accident has on the mother of a teenage girl. After her daughter Kara strikes and kills another teenager with her car, Leigh Churchill reflects on her relationships with both her mother and her daughter. Leigh's mother abandoned her when Leigh was only 16 and Leigh can't seem to connect with her daughter Kara. Leigh is ultimately shocked to discover that she shares some of the same traits as her own obviously flawed mother.

While I wouldn't go as far as to say I couldn't put this book down, when I finished it I realized that even though the pivotal event occurs in the first few pages and nothing really happens after that, I felt a compelling need to keep reading.
