The cover on this looks fantastic and you say that the illustrations are excellent. If I translate the title correctly it is:
Germania: A two thousand year history of culture
. It sounds like something I might like to read but my German is terrible! Is it available in English translation?

Hmm, good question. I don't think it does. In fact this is the only copy I have seen anywhere and the only reason why I have it is because it was my Mom's, that is until she gave it to me and it originally used to be my grandparents book and a really old book at that; it is the 1901 printing, however I just looked and they reprinted this book in 2004 but it is in German still. And the illustrations and especially the maps are really cool and I think what makes the book.

Apparently, I could order a (used) copy from Amazon for a mere $74.54. You are very lucky to have this book!
