really liked it
bookshelves: non-fiction

Very enjoyable - but not a book for reading on the bus, so I've now got another book that requires less attention on the go at the same time!

I'm just over half way through now (July 9th) and still enjoying it. The style is readable, the subject matter appears to be knowledgeably covered, and the viewpoint - that of a modern commentator - sits surprisingly well with the historical content. What this gives us is a picture of a real individual, albeit an unlikeable one.

I won't give it a final score until I've finished it, but so far the pospect is for a reasonable score!

UPDATE: Having finished it, I can say that this one didn't disappoint. I would say 'the best book I ever read about Henry VII' but that wouldn't be very high praise ;) So I'll just say that it's incongruous language and references bring the people alive and give them believable personalities and emotions in a way I wouldn't have expected. Sets the later Tudors in context and stands alone too.
