Me...Jane is such a sweet perfect book for beginning readers. Simple words and lovely illustrations explain how Jane fell in love with nature and animals at a very young age. Curious and ready to explore the book encourages young children to explore nature, starting with their own surroundings. Jane went from her back yard to the jungles of Africa. . .maybe I can do that too!
This is an excellent book for K-3 and could be paired with many activities. Expanding on nature, the children might plant a seed or study the rings in a tree. Expanding on animals the classroom could watch a butterfly from pupa to chrysalis, etc. Boys and girls alike would be interested in hearing Jane's story.

I also read "Allosaurus" on What a fun website for beginning readers! The pictures are colorful and the words are managable which instills confidence in beginning and reluctant readers from pre-k to 3rd grade. Kids love computers, so what better way to get children into books. They can read, listen, learn and they can do it all by themselves--which can also be very empowering. The site would appeal to boys and girls from very young pre-readers to 3rd and 4th graders wanting to learn more about animals, people and earth and space. I also like the pace of the reader and the how they highlight each word as it is read. Tremendous tool for teachers and parents!
