liked it
bookshelves: dystopian, fiction

I'm glad that I finally got around to reading this book, I've meant to for a while. It was okay. I enjoyed parts and found myself distracted by others. I can see how this is a, um, base for modern science fiction but I couldn't help but feel that it is a product of Mr. Asimov's generation. Most of the technology focuses on nuclear energy. The story is told amongst ominous tones of self-destruction but ultimately the ability of science to save us from ourselves. It is hardly surprising that a book first published in 1951 is fully convinced of the righteousness of science and capitalism. I found this novel interesting more from the social perspective of its production than any lasting imaginative or literary qualities.
