bookshelves: historical-fiction, graphic-novels, fantasy

Historical fantasy told in graphic novel format, which is pretty unique. A student recommended this to me, and I can see why students would like it. Thanks to some experimentation by a mad scientist, two slaves are empowered with fantastic abilities which serve them well as they run from their owner and his vicious slave catcher. The series will move into the American Revolution, so I'm anxious to see how they blend real history with this fantasy element. The storytelling is kind of disjointed and quite hard to follow, which is why it didn't rate higher, and I think this may be a problem for students who are not strong readers.
