Zack I like Michael Chabon and libraries, too! In fact, I read bits of this from a library copy in my last year of college, but I never had high hopes for it. I mainly remember liking that piece about his MFA program and misogyny. I haven't read Maps and Legends, a collection of fewer and longer essays, but it seems more promising on the whole. He has another novel coming out next year, I think.

Sarah Hm. I guess I miiiight be interested in reading that, but yeah, this was a disappointing read overall. Several of the essays had the same thesis, even if a lot of his points were pretty interesting/valid. And to be fair, this happens in most essay collections, but some of the essays were so blatantly filler ("I Feel Good About My Murse" comes to mind). This was one of those where I realized I was halfway through already and might as well stick it out to the end. Bleh.
