Gregor has just started his amazing summer....wait, actually, it's not that amazing. He's stuck in his steaming hot New York apartment taking care of his senile grandmother and baby sister, as his mom works and his other sister attends day camp. Why is he stuck at home babysitting all summer? Well, ever since his father disappeared two years ago, he has become the "man" of the house. And where is his father? The neighbors assume he just picked up and left, but Gregor knows his father would never do that. He knows there's something else to the story and that his dad will some day return with a good explanation.
And then one day, Gregor falls into the biggest adventure of his life. And I mean, literally, falls. He and his baby sister, Boots, fall through some weird hole in the laundry room basement of their apartment. And they land deep down in the Underland. A mystical underground land where humans live with human-sized cockroaches, rats, and bats. And Gregor soon discovers that he and Boots are part of a prophecy that will send them on the greatest adventure of all time.
