I think this book has a number of very good stories and has a decent crack at explaining that when trying to understand why person A is a great success and person B isn't there are a huge number of factors involved, some of which are down to background and culture and some of which are down to how the individual deals with opportunities or barriers when they arise. I think some of the comments posted about this book are a trifle unfair in criticising the lack of a firm scientific basis for Gladwell's basic hypothesis, I do not believe he was setting out a scientific paper for or peer review, though the number of notes and references does in some way undermine the critics.

Does it provide useful lessons about life, genius, success and the importance of understanding culture? I think so, and it is also pretty well written and blessedly brief... I read it over two evenings.
