really liked it

I enjoyed this book much more than I would have thought to enjoy a book about the plague. the novel is set in the plague year 1665-6. A small village makes the decision to quarantine themselves when plague is found within their midst. How this affects the villagers and their society is told through the voice of Anna Frith, servant to the young rector and his wife. Throughout the quarantine year, neighbor turns on neighbor and their generally quiet pastoral life is in upheaval, but Anna learns more about herself and her worth as a person than she would have thought.

This book had me right up until the end of the story. In my opinion, how Ms. Brooks wrapped up her story tests the limits of belief and enters the realm of wishful thinking. It almost ruined the book for me and is why this book rated only 4 out of 5 stars.
