it was amazing

This is a book that will make you smile from start to finish. It’s a feel good book with characters that displayed kindness, compassion, understanding, acceptance, and love -not only to each other-but with all those in their lives. It had very little angst which made it a perfect read during these stressful times.

Denny , 41, worked at her local at Grocery Port as a cashier, but basically did every job there as needed. She didn’t like it, but it was a good paying job and she needed it to help her 28 year old sister, Salem, and eleven year old niece who lived with her. When her sister was 17, she got pregnant and their parents kicked her out of the house. Denny took her in and they both raised Bella. Their love and support for each other was very evident. Salem tried to push Denny to go on dates, but Denny was extremely shy, insecure, and nervous when talking to women, so it never became long term.

Eliza was a very open, witty, and honest individual who couldn’t connect with the men she dated.
So for her 30th birthday, her best friend Heather, who was trans, gifted her a 6 month subscription to an online dating service, No More Frogs. As Eliza was getting ready for her date, she sent Heather a text asking for fashion advice. But the text was not sent to Heather’s number but Denny’s, who had the same number as Heather except the last digit. Denny told her she had the wrong number, but gave Eliza advice anyway. After that initial text, Eliza continued to text Denny and Denny anxiously waited to receive them.

I liked the way the characters got to know each other and bonded on an emotional level through their texting and phone calls before they actually met in person. They slowly exposed their vulnerabilities and truths to each other. For example, Denny didn’t like her love handles and stomach or when she was mistaken for a man, but didn’t let that bother her. When Eliza was in school, she was always teased for her small breasts so she was conscious of the outfits she wore. These characters were not perfect and this made them more realistic and likable.

I also thought the author did a great job in allowing the physical attraction not to overshadow their established strong emotional connection. For example, even though Denny hadn’t been with anyone in five years, her main concern was making sure Eliza was comfortable dating and being with a woman. So the author allowed the relationship to simmer for a bit until Eliza was comfortable enough to be intimate with Denny when she felt the time was right.

This was a very entertaining story. It was also quite humorous at times, especially with their embarrassing autocorrect texts. Wrong Number, Right Woman was just another great story by one of the most consistent authors in this genre.

An ARC was given for an honest review.
