The Justice League finds itself altered in the face of the DCnU reboot in this origin volume. Set five years prior to "current events," we see how this League ended up forming. Batman encounters Green Lantern while tracking a monstrous suicide bomber. Seeking out Superman for answers on the alien device, a brawl ensues that draws the Flash into the skirmish. The arrival of a deadly Aquaman and a violent Wonder Woman coincide with an invading army of parademons under the command of Darkseid. A last-minute addition of injured football star Cyborg allows the group to rescue Superman, beat back the invaders, and become recognized as actual heroes. While Geoff Johns creates a contemporary tale of superhuman team-ups, the rebooted team still feels forced. Jim Lee provides spectacular visuals, but I will need to see this group do more than bicker for me to accept them as our stalwart Justice League.
