This one is similar to "Call It Sleep" in that there are two halves of the novel. The first half covers the school years of Charles Ryder and his (homoerotic) friendship with Sebastian Flyte. The first half is actually enjoyable. The second half covers Ryder's somewhat creepy pursuit of Sebastian's look-alike sister Julia. The second half is full of melodrama and painfully stiff dialogue that you often find in English novels that deal with romance. Sebastian is definitely a gay character, but he is interesting. Julia ... boring. Plus they let Sebastian's character just peter out with no real resolution.
