liked it
bookshelves: contemporary-fiction
Read in January, 1998

I liked this enough to look for other books by Bohjalian, but the midwife Sibyl could have been a contemporary. I had friends (and one neighbor) who opted for unassisted or illegally assisted home births in the days before Virginia allowed midwives to practice. Even though I found the book's subject interesting, I thought it went on a little too long.
