This is a good read, a solid mystery with characters I can't help but like. I can't imagine that even in Italy cops are as sensitive in general, as in sync with their colleagues and wives, or as empathetic with suspects as is Commissario Brunetti, but who cares? This is make-believe & Donna Leon writes him as we'd like him to be. I suppose this isn't an "important" book, filled with significant social commentary or incredible literary flourishes, though there is a touch of sort of ironic tragedy. In any event, it was quite good to curl up with and I know I'll read more in the series.
