it was ok
bookshelves: fiction, young-adult

Lots of potential with very little delivery. I certainly don't need every book I read to be action-packed, but there was really no action or plot development AT ALL that I could cling to here. In addition, I found myself not connecting with the characters, nor did I care about the political strife that was happening in the US - we are given only snippets of the gravity of this situation through second-hand newspaper reading. I feel like the protagonist just sort of floats along, waiting for things to happen - and subsequently, so does the reader. (Also, instead of adding to the text, the photos are merely irritatingly distracting.) I'm a Hesse fan, but this was disappointing.
