it was amazing
bookshelves: 2012, absolutely-adored

This had my heart from the very first page.

I totally judged this book by it's unassuming and boring cover. Having read it, though, I feel like the cover is genius, because the simplicity and lack of visual appeal is indirectly proportional to the amount of heart and compassion and empathy and goodness contained within the pages between the covers.

Namedropping has never been more beautiful than when it occurs on page 212; Schmidt makes writing seem more like an art form than anything else, drawing and shaping an incredible and beautiful must-read story.

Gary D. Schmidt
“You know, there are good reasons to learn how to read. Poetry isn't one of them. I mean, so what if two roads go two ways in a wood? So what? Who cares if it made all that big a difference? What difference? And why should I have to guess what the difference is? Isn't that what he's supposed to say?

Why can't poets just say what they want to say and then shut up?”
