I'm really unsure how to rate this.

On one hand, I read this really quickly and felt very consumed by the book. I was transported to Scotland and I could feel the Highland fog surrounding me as I read. On the other hand... there were some parts that really bothered me, and at times I felt like I was reading slightly glorified fanfiction. Sometimes, It felt like Gabaldon just added stuff as she went along, or threw stuff in she forgot about ages ago.

There was some really risque stuff in this book - beatings, sex, witchcraft. Some of it made me feel a bit weird. But it was very entertaining, and I read it without much effort.

In the end, a satisfactory way for me to pass time. Not sure if I want to read the rest of the series - I'm sort of happy leaving off where the first book ended, but curiosity will probably get the better of me eventually.
