I really enjoyed reading this book mostly because there were so many things I had never even considered concerning royal mistresses. This probably stems from the fact that I've only ever really been interested in the mistresses of Henry VIII and therefore didn't know many of these other women that are described in detail in this book. I was however a little disappointed at the limitations of the book and the way it was put together. Most of the examples were of 18th century mistresses from England and in particular France, which made for a very one sided read. In each chapter the same women were put into play and not before long it got tirering to read the same names over and over again. Also, the book wasn't laid out chronologically, which did make it a little hard to figure out where in time the book was, at least until I got a hang of the different names and titles.
