Red, White, and Boom! by Lee Wardlaw

Lee Wardlaw's newest title celebrates America and the 4th of July, but the book could really be used with young readers and writers to invite creative verb usage. Take another look at those simple lines:

Bugles call
Fifers trill
Frisbie flips
Fireflies flit
Sparklers spit

There's really a lot going on this book for description and depiction that deserves a closer look.

Middle grade readers might look at writing in the list poem or couplet forms after sharing this book.

Huy Voun Lee's paper cut illustrations remind me of Melanie Hope Greenberg's style. As others are citing here at Goodreads, the depiction of multiple cultures within the book is something to celebrated here!

A beautifully packaged book!
