This is a story about a family that goes on vacation to Ireland, renting a small cottage in a rural locale. The thought of the mother was to get them away from their electronic tethers and allow them to get to know each other again. The unthinkable happens and the US and Britain are nuclear bombed. The resulting EMP wave wipes out the operation of anything electronic, including the power grid. The book describes the trials and dangers faced by the family over the ensuing months. The ending puts a nice perspective on the current electronic lifestyle.
