really liked it
bookshelves: historical, young-adult

When Kit Tyler leaves her beloved home in Barbados, she is unprepared for the harsh realities of life in colonial New England. Before she even reaches the shore she has already made an enemy. In Connecticut, clothing is different, food is different, customs are different, she's different.

I needed a book to read on a long bus ride and this is a Newbery winner I haven't read (one of many) so I grabbed it in a bookstore. [Interestingly, this is the only Newbery winner to be voted in unanimously in the very first vote.] It was good enough to keep me interested for several hours straight even though I predicted the ending far in advance. I would put it squarely in the Young Adult section.
