it was amazing

Seriously, this IS the book Augusten Burroughs was born to write: the book about how ruminating your way through your problems will never ever solve them; the book about how confidence is not about feeling up to the task, but being fully absorbed in meaningful work such that you don't have room to question yourself; and the book about how you can never possibly find a meaningful life if you're so obsessed with positivity that you forget you have to _feel_ your emotions before you can live with them. As an added treat, a completely heartrending account of watching a partner die of a terminal disease, one which never ignores the incredible rewards found in facing absolutely everything life slings at you

Seriously, if self-help is pop-Epicureanism, this is a great big heaping of Stoic brilliance.
