On Kinsey's 33rd birthday, she takes on a new case and learns that there is a contract on her life. The case sounds like an easy one: transport Irene Gersh's mother back to Santa Teresa from her trailer home in the Mojave Desert. But as normal, no case is that easy - Agnes Grey is tracked down in a nursing home in an unstable mental state. Agnes is transported back by Air Ambulance only to go missing from the nursing home where she is admitted. As for the contract, a criminal she'd investigated previously was back in custody and was blaming the prosecutors for ruining his life. He'd ordered that the three (including Kinsey) be taken out. After a serious car accident, Kinsey contacts a bodyguard until the situation is resolved.
Typical of the series, lots of little tidbits and action until the last 30 pages or so when the pace and heartrate pick up. Read much of this one in one extended sitting.
