Not your typical Picoult. This is not nearly as engrossing, as deep, as well written, as well developed as her other books. I wonder if she is busy with her kids? Some other sort of struggle? Just tired of writing?

That said, I did keep reading, she is an easy one to read in a weekend. The wolf bits were interesting, tho at times the way Luke was with them was hard to believe. And his difficulty re entering was hard for me to believe. I know re entry can be hard, but he seemed to have lost it in a way that would not have come with 2 years apart from humanity, but more.

All the characters were sad. It was a downer. The speed with which they tried to turn off Luke, the process to determine which child could do that, was all hard to believe as well. Court proceedings were stretched to what may be true. I could be wrong, but nonetheless, that is how it felt to me reading it.

No character really set in. None was truly developed.
The very end was the most poignant, and I think Luke would have liked that part for sure.
