** spoiler alert ** Sandman Slim gets trickier and trickier to review after each book. Mostly because they're constantly evolving. The first book was a revenge tale. Plain and simple. The second book is what happens after your revenge trip runs out. With zombies. The third book takes the protaganist, and puts him through hell. Again. Literally. And that brings us to this one. This is a book in two parts.

The first is how Stark has been handling his new job as Lucifer. And the second is what happens when he gets out and how he deals with another gigantic crisis. This one isn't so much Stark kicking ass and taking names, so much as Stark trying to (with limited success)choose his battles more wisely. There's a lot of introspection on Stark's part. It also gives us a look at how his friends and allies have gotten quite a bit more powerful, which will definitely become more important in the next two books.

Overall this is Stark out on his own and his dealing with that fact. It's not the boom-bang-pow that was the mainstay of previous books, but as it's own animal, it's really good. Definitely a strong start, if a little different, to the second half of the Sandman Slim series.
