it was amazing
bookshelves: dickens-at-200
Read from May 28 to July 14, 2012

I planned on giving this book four stars almost the entire way through it, but the last chapter was so beautiful and moving it made me cry! So ... five stars it is. Other than the ending, my favorite part remains the poem about the frog. I was laughing so hard.
Just a wonderful, wonderful book.

S.n. Jarvis Did you cry at the end because you felt you were saying goodbye to the characters forever?

I obviously can't offer you more of Mr Pickwick and his friends, but you might like to take a look at my forthcoming novel Death and Mr Pickwick, which tells the story behind the creation of The Pickwick Papers. For a quick overview, here is the first pre-publication review from the American book trade journal Publishers Weekly:

And for more information, here is the novel's website:

Pickwick, is my view, is not just a "wonderful, wonderful book" - it also has the most amazing backstory of any novel I have encountered.

Best wishes

Stephen Jarvis
