I picked this up for The Readers Summer Book club with Simon and Gav. The story really intrigued me as this was a part of World War II I with which I was not familiar. A black and white Jazz group, trying to make a record with Louie Armstrong begin hiding in order to survive the Nazi government. Not all do, and years later, the surviving members reconnect. Old memories are revisited and the novel explores how different people have different memories and explanations for the same exact set of circumstances. The author uses Baltimore slang for the characters speech patterns which enhances the story.
