I liked the spunky 12 year old 'heroine' and the fact that she didn't crumble. And in this age of finally lauding the under appreciated black women, who actually raised so many white children, especially in the South, you will hear some echoes of The Help in this novel.

Light reading that does what it's supposed to, transports you to another place and time, to people whose lives are more messed up than your own, and thus provide some comic relief!
