I was loaned a review copy of this book, which is an enormous tome, yet for some reason I decided this would be appropriate summer reading while traveling a lot. It was readable, but I never felt immersed in the story. It's a horror novel that was just scary enough, and I'm a wimp, so it's probably not all that scary. And unless a bunch of new characters are going to be introduced in subsequent Diviners books, all the creation stories have been given up in this one volume. I'm only mildly curious about what happens to this group of teens with special powers, in part because I found their supernatural abilities and the way the teens came together a little arbitrary. In comics, so much of the supernatural is a metaphor for the anguish of feeling different, outcast or weird as a teenager; not that all superpowers have to allude to teen angst, but they felt untethered here. Maybe the glue that I want will be in the next Diviners book?
