Lucinda Chapdelaine became an orphan at the age of five when her parents left for a ball and never returned. She was taken in by her ex step uncle and his wife and became the grueling slave of her demanding and head strong aunt. Her uncle is the gold smith of the town, fixing bracelets, rings, pendants, and any jewelry which wander into his shop. Lucina's aunt runs the business, ordering Lucinda to do any job to keep her out of the way. Once, when Lucinda was working, cleaning the shop, a woman entered, wishing for her gem to be refitted into a pendant setting. The goldsmith shop had never seen such a large or pricey stone. The woman exits, leaving her gem in the hands of Lucinda. That night, while Lucinda waits in her room for sleep, a boy breaks in through the window and begs for her to hide him and give him shelter for the night. When Lucinda wakes the next morning, the boy along with the stone has disappeared. This woman begins an adventure for Lucinda, spinning her world into something she never could have imagined.
