If Louis Zamperini's life were the stuff of fiction, you wouldn't believe it. He goes from wild youth to college track star to Olympian, becoming the runner many believe would break the 4 minute mile. Pearl Harbor turns him into a bomber, then a survivor lost at sea for nearly a month, and then a POW who endures a brutality that would have broken most men. Like with Seabiscuit, Hillenbrand is masterful at telling his story.
