Rose Mary Suzanne Brockmann veered from her usual central characters--SEALs or the Troubleshooters--and goes a good distance into the future with the Obermeyer Institute. This organization is dedicated to research regarding people gifted with using their brains at a higher level than attained before--telekinesis, super strength, reversal of the aging process, a kind of mind meld (remember Spock?) and other special talents. In direct opposition is a cartel known as The Organization who are mass producing Destiny, a frightening drug that immediately makes a user addicted and resulting in death. Great characters include a former Navy SEAL (Brockmann loves the SEALs) who has been blacklisted, a woman at Obermeyer who is a crack operative with strength gifts, another gay operative (a signature of Brockmann books) who has fallen in love with an Opermeyer doctor, and the lead research person at the Institute who has many talents due to his high level of brain use. There's sci-fi, mystery, suspense, and romance in this easy-to-read, exciting book.
