The Optimist's Daughter
Started at lunch and couldn't put it down again after work. I almost wish that I had read it right after my mother died. But perhaps it's better that I waited a six months. The way that the protagonist grapples with the people her parents were, with all their flaws, with all her insider knowledge and with the memories she has compared to the memories of others..is simply phenomenal. The last quarter of the novel blew me away. I will purchase this book. It was THAT good.
