Two black brothers at the edge of survival vie to humiliate each other but also to care for and earn respect from one another. One gets a job as a white-faced Abe Lincoln in a carny show where people pay to play J W Booth and murder him. The other is the past God of three-card-Monte but has a reason to deny his own skill despite his dire poverty and other prospects. Will they get money, lovers and an understanding of why their parents abandoned them before they ruin one another?
